On July 12th and 13th, 2020, the middle and upper reaches of Nam Ou river received its first heavy rainfall since the flood season occurred in. The rainstorm caused the water level to rise. Nam Ou River Basin Cascade Hydropower Project seized the rare opportunity and actively applied for load power generation to the Lao power grid. On June 14, all 11 units were put into operation at the same time. The total load in the basin reached a record high of 500MW, accounting for 46.6% of the domestic load demand in Laos. On that day, the total daily generating capacity of the station reached 10.548 million KWH, which is the highest number since its operation.
At present, the water level is still rising, there still have room for the load growth of the river in the next few days. The records of daily output are still on track to be broken.
